Knee High Carrots

So I was walking around Tai Pan the other day with my mom and we stumbled upon some carrots that I loved but they wanted way too much for them. They wanted 1 for $4.

The more I looked at them I got that spark in my eyes and said to my mom, "This is just a nylon, some raffia and some moss. I can do this so much cheaper." So that is just what I did.

So the supplies you need are:
Raffia (On hand)
Knee Highs (You can find a pair for 33 cents at WalMart)
Spray Paint (Orange and Green) (On hand)
Elastics (On hand)
Spanish Moss (Used 40% off so $1.50 and had half a bag left over after two carrots)

Start out by sewing from tip of toe to just before the reinforcement on the knee in a diagonal line.

Cut off excess nylon (Leave the reinforcement at the knee)

Turn right side out but keep it bunched so that you can stuff it easier.
Work all your moss in to form the shape of a carrot, small at the bottom and larger at the top. Knot at that top.

Beware that the moss makes a huge mess!

Then take them outside and spray paint them orange

Also spray paint your raffia green

Then while I still had long strands of raffia I wrapped it around the top of the carrot and put an elastic around it to hold it. The elastic is sitting just below the knot. Then I trimmed off the raffia just below the elastic.

I then took it outside to spray the green again to hide the orange knot and spray the elastic green.

So much cheaper than the Tai Pan ones and I got two for $1.88. Lot better than paying $4 for one. Yeah for cheap crafts!

Easter Eggs

For a project lately I wanted something easy and cheap. So this is what I picked:I have seen this done a ton of times around blog world so why not do them? I had the paint on hand I just had to buy the bag of eggs for a dollar. The hardest part was waiting for the paint to dry. I even saw some eggs like this at Pottery Barn for $14. They had some bright blue eggs in there as well but I wanted to stay somewhat neutral. Such an easy vase filler and decoration for the Easter season.

Spring Wreath

I was feeling pretty good when the weather started to warm up but then mother nature decided to dump 7 inches of snow on my front yard. I was not happy at all. However I thought I would make the best of it and try and think spring by making a wreath to go on my door.

I ran to the local craft store and picked up some floral stems and a grapevine wreath and this is what I created.
Now if the weather would just cooperate and actually stay spring that would make me so happy!

Minky Fabric

So I went to St. George, UT a few weekends ago for fun. While I was down there I made sure to hit the local Ben Franklin Crafts inside of Ace. All I can say is heaven! They have so much more fabric than up here at our local Ben Franklin store.

So while I was browsing I went down the flannel and minky isle and can I say I was completely taken back. If minky wasn't so expensive I would have bought more. In fact I am really kicking myself for not buying more. I found that there are more than just two shades of brown minky. This completely opened up more opportunities for different bear colors.

Being on a tighter budget though I only bought enough for one bear. (Still kicking self for not buying more!) I ended up going with a espresso color which I absolutely love.

They also had one shade lighter than this one, a dark chocolate, and then the standard chocolate and caramel. If anyone knows a great website for buying minky please fill me in. I would love to buy more of this color. Maybe on my next trip I will save some money and buy a bunch. Look for a post of a bear made out of this shortly.
