Cupcake Topiary

I have seen topiary crafts all over blog land and I wasn't so sure about them. It was one of the projects that I thought I would never do. Then I saw some Valentine ones made out of cupcake liners and I knew I wanted to do one. So here is my cupcake topiary:

Nothing fancy but it makes me happy.

Hair Flower Overload

My sister approached me a little before Christmas and asked if I would put together some hair flowers for her girls. So we went to Hobby Lobby and bought tons of flowers and accessories. Then I got to work. There are also some flowers that I did after we went shopping because I had been playing around with some of the ideas out in blog land and my sister loved them. There are a lot I must warn you. (What you see is only half, I did two of each flower so that they match)
The one on the left has a zipper looking center but you can't really tell unless you get closer. This is one of those where I played around. I found some ribbon that was wavy and so I used the sewing machine and stitched the ribbon down the middle in a circle on some felt. This was another one I played around with. It is made of satin fabric. You cut out 9 flower like shapes, melt the ends, fold them on each other, stitch in place and apply to clip. Satin is very slippery so I will be trying this one again! These are some headbands that I wrapped in ribbon. The idea is that they can slide the alligator clips in the ribbon and wear both. Just like the other one I did for me.These I did a little while later. These are going to my newest niece with more to be made.

Korker Bow

So my last project was this skirt:

While I was making it I saw that I had ribbon that matched. So I thought why not try another new thing and cross it off my someday list.
So I decided that I was going to try and make a Korker Bow. I came across this great tutorial for them and bought the clothespins and dowels and while making dinner I popped them in the oven so they were ready for an after dinner craft. They are super easy to make and I am so glad that I found a great tutorial for them.

Window Valance=Girls Skirt

This year will be all about finishing crafts I already have and getting done some projects on my things to try list. This project was one of those want to try projects.

So in all of my blog hopping I came across this quick and easy skirt idea. Having no girls of my own though it sat on the back burner until I asked my brother if I could try it on his little girl. So I found this valance on clearance at Target.

I knew that it needed a bit more to it than the tutorial called for. So I unpicked the tabs at the top of the valance and noticed also that it was a bit too shear for my liking. So after unpicking I sewed in some lining and created a new pocket for the elastic to go inside. Here is how it turned out:

Not bad for an hours worth of work and crossing off one of my someday projects!

Wedding Gift Idea

I didn't get this as a wedding gift but you could totally do this. I bought this frame at Robert's Craft store. It matched my bedroom at the time. I have since redone my bedroom, so I took the picture out and repainted it brown to match my new room. It would be an easy wedding gift to make. Find a frame, put the saying on it, put a picture of temple they were married in and tie it up with a bow. Super simple!

Projects Challenge Update

So the end of the year has come and it has come time to tally up the projects I finished from the projects challenge. I mentioned that I had at least 15 projects laying around waiting to be finished.
My goal was to get at least 10 of them finished and to not buy anything new until what I had was done. I should have known myself better than that. I brought all sorts of new things in! I brought in probably 7 or 8 new projects that I did get complete but that means that I didn't get as many projects done from my stack sitting in my craft pile. Now that I think about it I may have added 1 or 2 to my stack, whoops!
So how many did I get done? I finished 5 projects. Sad that I only completed half of my goal. I must say that some of the projects I finished were big. 2 were quilts. There was also a wood project that was nagging for some time and it got finished too. So I do feel like I got something done but I wish I could have finished more. I guess that just means I have things to work on this year!
How many did you get done before the end of the year?
