My son has been talking non stop about fishing and he would bring me random toys saying that they were fish. So I decided I would make him some fish and a fishing pole. I just bought some felt squares (4 for $1 at Hobby Lobby) and used this fish pattern to cut them out and sew them.
I learned after making a few of them that it is best to make two copies of the fish pattern and reverse one so that your sides match.
I used a washer for the magnet to catch and some ric rac to attach it but you could also use ribbon. I just used what I had.
Here is the final fish.
I made the pole with a dowel and some yarn for the fishing line. I wrapped some of the extra felt around the bottom for the handle. For the magnet I used super strong round ones and they are able to hold 6 fish at a time.
I ended up making 12 fish and my son can't get enough of them.

Oh, I just love it! I might just make some for my son and daughter!
Oh, and how did you attach the magnet to the end of the yarn on the rod?
For the magnets I took two of the really strong round magnets and used E-6000. You have to be careful though, my yarn slipped out twice as I tried to put the two magnets together. They were just too strong and would snap together before I could get the yarn in. I read somewhere else that you could use sticky back magnets but they weren't very strong and wouldn't pick up the fish. The round ones with E-6000 worked so much better.
These are so cute! My boys would love them!
